About The Founder President

Smt. Shanti Gogoi, a prominent social activist of Assam is the Founder of SEWA. Smt. Shanti Gogoi was born on 30 August, 1934 to Sri Jogesh Chandra Gohain and Smt. Padmakumari Gohain. Her father was a MLC in the late 1930s and passed away in 1944. Her mother Smt. Padmakumari Gohain was a politician and served as the Social Welfare Minister and Social Welfare & Sericulture Minister in Bimala Prasad Chaliha and Mahendra Mohan Choudhary cabinets. Smt. Shanti Gogoi was married to Sri Keshab Chandra Gogoi. Sri Keshab Gogoi was a lawyer and started his political career 1978 and in the year 1985, he became the Chief Minister of Assam.

About The President

Based in Dibrugarh, SEWA is a voluntary non-governmental organization that Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi PVSM AVSM VSM (Retd.) was commissioned as a Fighter Pilot in the Indian Air force in 1973. Air Marshal Gogoi has flown over 3000 hours on various Fighter Aircraft of the IAF. The Air Marshal retired from the IAF in 2013 as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of South Western Air Command. In 2012 he was awarded, by the President of India, the highest peace time award Param Vishisht Seva Medal for rendering service of the most exceptional order. He is also a recipient of AVSM and VSM. He is an M.Sc. and has done M. Phil in Defence and Management Studies from DAVV University, Indore.
